When using aluminum scrap melting furnace for smelting, a lot of aluminum slag will be produced in the furnace. The main components of aluminum slag are alumina and some non-metallic inclusions. When the aluminum slag is removed from the furnace through the slag removal process, the metal aluminum mixed with it will be taken out. The extraction of aluminum will affect the recovery rate of aluminum. So, how to reduce the aluminum slag in the aluminum scrap smelting furnace?
Basic Composition and Properties of Aluminum Slag
Basic composition: metal aluminum (accounting for 40-60% of slag), Al2O3, oxides of Fe/Si/Mg and chlorides of K, Na, Ca, Mg, etc.
Basic properties: the temperature of aluminum slag is high, and oxidation reaction can occur when it meets air. During the cooling process of aluminum slag, a large amount of metal will be lost due to oxidation and burning. At the same time, aluminum slag is highly corrosive to contacts (inhalation is harmful to health).
Measures to Reduce Aluminum Slag
During the smelting process of scrap aluminum, as the amount of slag increases, the aluminum melting loss and the metal aluminum brought out during slag removal will also increase. The purpose of our aluminum slag treatment is not to create a large amount of aluminum slag for recycling, but to ensure the amount of aluminum slag can be reduced under the premise of the quality of molten aluminum, so how to take measures to reduce the amount of aluminum slag is also crucial. The amount of slag is related to factors such as smelting temperature, charge state, and production process.
During normal production, the amount of slag can be reduced from the following aspects:
1. Reasonable furnace geometry and feeding sequence.
2. Strictly control the melting temperature to prevent overheating, and the flame spray should have a certain angle to shorten the melting time.
3. Appropriate amount of flux and refining time, stable stirring, no damage to the oxide film on the surface of the melt, and timely coverage of the aluminum melt.
4. Sorting and cleaning waste miscellaneous aluminum, and packing the finely crushed charge with a large specific surface area with a press.
5. The slag is processed before slag removal. If the slagging agent is used to reduce the wettability between the aluminum melt and the oxides in the slag, the granular aluminum droplets mixed in the slag will be separated and returned to the melt.
6. Reasonably grasp the timing of slag removal. When the melt temperature is low, the wettability between the slag and the melt is better, and a considerable amount of melt is mixed in the slag. If the slag is removed at this time, the weight of the melt brought out with the slag is about 60% of the slag weight.
7. Use professional slag removal tools and techniques.
