How Do You Used Aluminum Scrap melting Furnace Recycling Scrap Aluminum?

Nowadays, a large quantity of aluminum scraps is generated every day. The scrap aluminum can be reused through re-melting and recasting. But, how do you use the aluminum scrap melting furnace to melt the aluminum scraps? Are you choosing a proper furnace?

Scrap Aluminum Types

There are several types of aluminum scrap generated in our daily lives, including:

  • · Old Sheets: Aluminum sheets and plates that have reached the end of their usable life.
  • · Extrusions: Aluminum profiles or bars that are typically used in construction.
  • · Cans: Aluminum beverage cans that are commonly recycled.
  • · Cast Aluminum: Aluminum items that have been cast in a mold, such as engine parts.
  • · Turnings: Small pieces of aluminum are generated during the machining processes.
  • · Aluminum Wire: Scrap wire made of aluminum from various sources.
  • · Aluminum Wheels: Scrap from old aluminum wheels of vehicles.
  • · Aluminum Radiators: Scrap from old radiators made of aluminum.

Aluminum Scrap Melting Furnace Types

There are several types of aluminum scrap melting furnaces used in the recycling industry. Here are some common types.

Resistance Furnace

Description: Uses resistance wire to convert electrical energy into heat to smelt aluminum. This type of furnace is often used to produce small batches of high-precision aluminum products. However, resistance furnaces have lower heating efficiency and higher costs.

Resistance Furnace

Features

Simple structure to maintain and operate.

Equipped with an advanced temperature control system, the temperature in the furnace can be accurately controlled to meet different process requirements.

Easy to achieve heating in a vacuum or controlled atmosphere.

It is widely used in various heat treatment processes, such as tempering, annealing, carburizing, nitriding, etc.

Gas furnace

Using gas as a heat source, the gas and air are mixed and burned in the furnace to heat the aluminum material. Gas furnaces are often used in high-volume casting and forging processes because of their high efficiency. However, using a gas furnace requires consideration of the installation and maintenance of ducting and exhaust systems.

Energy Consumption of Every Type of Aluminum Scrap Melting Furnace

The energy consumption of aluminum melting furnaces varies depending on factors such as equipment model, process parameters, production scale, etc., so specific energy consumption values cannot be given. Different types of aluminum melting furnaces also have certain differences in energy consumption.

Resistance Aluminum Melting Furnace

The energy consumption of resistance aluminum melting furnaces mainly depends on the size of the current and heating time. Resistance furnaces heat aluminum materials by converting electrical energy into thermal energy, and their energy consumption is relatively high because the efficiency of converting electrical energy into thermal energy is not 100%. The heating efficiency of the resistance furnace is low and the cost is high. Normally, it takes 600kW·h of electricity to melt 1-ton aluminum scrap.

Gas-Fired Aluminum Melting Furnaces

The energy consumption of gas-fired aluminum melting furnaces depends on gas consumption and combustion efficiency. A gas furnace uses heat energy generated by gas combustion to heat aluminum materials, and its energy consumption is relatively low because the heat energy generated by gas combustion can be directly transferred to the aluminum material. According to the experience of our customer, melting 1 ton of aluminum scrap with a gas-fired furnace costs about 70m3 natural gas.

Induction Melting Aluminum Furnace

The energy consumption of an induction melting aluminum furnace depends on the frequency and size of the current and the heating time. The induction furnace uses the principle of electromagnetic induction to generate high-frequency currents and generate eddy currents in the aluminum material to heat the aluminum material. Its energy consumption is relatively low because the aluminum material generates heat during heating. Typically, to melt 1 ton of aluminum scrap with the induction melting furnace, we need 360kW·h of electricity.

Electric Arc Furnace

The power consumption of electric arc furnace melting aluminum varies depending on the equipment model, process parameters, production scale, and other factors. Generally speaking, the power consumption of using an electric arc furnace to smelt one ton of aluminum is 450-500kW·h.

In Summary

There are many types of aluminum melting furnaces, and you can choose a suitable furnace type according to different needs and process requirements. Moreover, the specific energy consumption value of the scrap aluminum melting furnace is also affected by factors such as production technology, equipment maintenance, and operation management. Therefore, when selecting the type of aluminum melting furnace and purchasing equipment, it is necessary to comprehensively consider a variety of factors, including equipment energy consumption, production efficiency, production cost, etc.
